WSUS SUS Wiki Community |
This page serve as a diary for the WSUS Wiki site. As you add or update content, if you have questions, or even delete content, post here to explain why. Also you can use this as a place to discuss WSUS WIKI. For an index of all earlier diary entries, see WSUS Wiki Diary Index. David Dehghan The site traffic has more than doubled since the release of WSUS. That is fantastic. Saturday June 11 Mohammed Athif Khaleel I think we need to do some cleanup here. Starting from MENU, we have to remove some items like; Known WSUS RC Issues .. WSUS Beta Newsgroups .. I Love WSUS Saturday June 26 David Dehghan I cleaned up a couple of pages. The comments are getting out of hand. Unfortunately only site administrators have ability to delete comments. I wish this site had a a super user role so that we didn't have to have too many admins. Until then I think the best plan is for me to make you guys (Athif, Thomas) admins so that you too can delete comments and merge the good content of it with the site. Email me if you have any other suggestion. I agree with Athif we should start deleting the old data so that the site is uptodate. Sunday June 26 Mohammed Athif Khaleel David, Yes, Infact I wanted to talk to you on this issue. You can put me into Admin Group. I will be doing more clean-up over the weekend. Tuesday June 28 Martin Mewes I am new to this Wiki and am not really a friend of deleting things as old messages give a good view how things have been built up. If the erasion is not done yet (am not sure) for me it would be ok to just move messages prior to place a date here to a subdirectory and render them as no longer monitored and not editable because of place reason here. Tuseday July 5 David Dehghan - About deleting. The old information that we want to delete is really old. Mostly is about bug that were in the beta build and are no longer present. Since google will index everything the old info will be potentially very misleading. Thursday July 14 Thomas Lee - I agree with David, there is a of older information that is no longer relevant - like bugs in RC or B1. These need to get deleted. I've started this with the bugs page, as you can see. Also started updating the faq. Sunday July 17 Thomas Lee - I've updated the Known WSUS Issues and have removed all the old (RC, Beta) bugs to a separate page. As Martin notes above, we don't just want to lose this stuff especially if we're not sure all the bugs were fixed <grin>. So I've moved it to a separate page and we can deal with that over time. By the autumn, I'd like all the old stuff to be either deleted or migrated away like this. Wednesday July 20 David Dehghan Wow. looks like that editme guys updated the software again. It looks much better. Thomas Lee - Cool about Office wanting to replicate the success here. This wiki has shown that 2-3 dedicated folks can do a reasonable job so long as the product time are fully behind them, keep them in the loop and communicate. Communication with the WSUS team has not been great and this is an area the team can improve on. For Office, however, it'll be a much bigger job as it's a much bigger product. I suspect you'd need 8-10 dedicated folks to make it past the vandals (although I've see NO evidence of vandals here!). Monday, July 25 Jeff Centimano - I finally have some time to start working on the WSUS Wiki. I updated several pages tonight and also added a new page Advanced Deployment Options. We really need to get some kind of style sheet or something to prevent the formatting from getting messed up as we all make changes. I spent quite a bit of time on the FAQ page - and most of the time was spent cleaning up formatting, not adding new content. Thoughts? Wednesday, August 10 Mohammed Athif Khaleel It's been a long time and finally I am back to Wiki. Started with some clean up and formatting the pages. Saturdayday, August 13 Thomas Lee welcome back Athif - nice to see you active again!! Tuesday, August 16 Mohammed Athif Khaleel Thanks Thomas:-) Yes, Way to Go!! Wednesday 19 Oct Thomas Lee I can't be bothered to update the wiki diary pages <grin!!>. It will require extra tuits to deal. I have been updating the best practices page http://wsus.editme.com/PatchMgmtBestPractices. I've hacked the HTML back a bit (the Editme editor sucks big timein this regard). Also, got the headers consistent in terms of fint indentations and colour. I also added header tags (at H2 level). I've discovered that google takes some notice of these in terms of indexing and querying so it's worth putting them in. Not sure how to put in H1 tag to the page heading. I have just been testing (using LONG TITLE - should be set to H1) to see what happens. As I'd hoped, editme does put the page title into H1 tags. Thus we should strive to add H2 tags to headings inside pages to assist the search engine optimisation opportunites.
The index "Home" link was broken. Friday 10 Feb 2006 Thomas Lee Been a while since I've been here. I noticed the index was a bit inconsistent with the site in terms of font usage. So I tidied up the layout, and also fixed a bunch more appaling HTML inserted by this site's pathetic attempt at a editor {grin}. I also tidied up the table of contents on the home page in terms of making sentence endings consistent. Also, now that WSUS is released, project status is perhaps less relevant - so I moved this to the bottom of the list. Not throwing rocks or anything, just a reflection that folks use this site for information rather than to worry about when WSUS will RTM Also - the reports seem broken? Monday 28 Feb I've spoken to David and the reports are truly broken. I've updated the page and hopefull David will get these reports working soon.
